The Essentials to Bring
To avoid forgetting important items or packing unnecessary things, the following non-exhaustive checklist will serve as a solid foundation to ensure you're well prepared.
Travel Documents
Make sure to keep your personal documents in a safe place (in the hotel safe or in your luggage) along with photocopies. Indeed, keeping copies of these important documents can streamline administrative procedures in case of loss or theft.
- Your national identity card or biometric passport (remember to check its validity) ;
- Your health record and vaccination certificate ;
- Your insurance cards (especially the European health insurance card) ;
- Your driving license and all related documentation (if necessary) ;
- Your bank card and/or checkbook.
Clothing and Footwear
The clothes you pack should:
- Be in sufficient quantity (count the days, and if you'd rather travel light, plan for laundry during your stay) ;
- Be suited to the climate (long, lightweight garments that don't cling to your skin; the weather can be sunny but also windy) ;
- Be appropriate for your activities (think comfort and technical wear for planned activities: hiking, park visits, diving or snorkeling) ;
- Include useful accessories (hat, high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, hiking shoes or sneakers, open sandals).
Useful Kits
Organize your packing thoughtfully so you can find everything easily. To do this, prepare the following kits:
- Travel kit (containing useful items depending on your trip's nature: blanket, foldable bag, Swiss Army knife, etc.) ;
- Toiletries kit (soap, towel, shampoo, sunscreen, after-sun lotion, etc.) ;
- First aid kit (standard with bandages, antiseptic, etc., insect repellent and soothing cream. Consider supplementing this kit based on your doctor's advice).
Finally, keeping some cash on you is useful for daily expenses. However, remain cautious as pickpockets may be present.
